Software for the cooperatives that built East Africa
SACCOs hold the savings and fund the dreams of millions of people. We think the tools they run on should be as serious as the responsibility they carry.
To give every SACCO in East Africa the operating system it deserves — so a cooperative in Nyeri runs on the same quality of software as a bank in Nairobi.
Why we built Sacco Kit
I spent years watching SACCOs do extraordinary things with impossible tools. A society managing hundreds of millions in members' savings — on spreadsheets emailed between branches, with the month-end close held together by one heroic accountant and a lot of late nights.
The software that existed was either a bank core-banking system bent awkwardly into the shape of a cooperative, or a local tool that hadn't kept up with M-PESA, SASRA, or what members now expect from their phones.
So we started Sacco Kit with a narrow, stubborn goal: build the system we wished those SACCOs had. Native to how cooperatives actually work. M-PESA-first. Multi-branch from day one. Regulator-ready out of the box.
We're building it in East Africa, for East Africa — close to the people who use it, in the markets whose rules we're encoding. Every feature is shaped by real SACCO officers, not assumptions made an ocean away.
We're early, and deliberately so. We'd rather get the core right for a focused set of SACCOs than spread thin. If that sounds like the kind of partner you want, we'd love to talk.
How we work
SACCOs first
Every decision starts with the cooperative officer's day, not a generic banking abstraction.
Boringly reliable
This is members' money. We optimise for correctness and trust over flash.
Built in the region
Local rails, local rules, local support — designed where it's used.
Open about progress
We ship continuously and tell customers what's next, honestly.
Small team, large mandate
We're just getting started — and hiring people who care about cooperatives as much as code.
Three markets, one platform
SASRA-ready
Prudential returns, tier 1 & 2 reporting, and Safaricom M-PESA rails.
UMRA-aligned
Reporting tuned to Uganda's regulator, with MTN & Airtel money built in.
TCDC compliant
Cooperative-commission reporting and Swahili-ready statements.
